Crime in Slovakia

Slovakia (population 5.4 million) is a Central European country with a history of relatively low crime. While crime became more widespread after the fall of communism in 1989, it remains low when compared to many other post-communist countries.
According to the United States Department of Defense, Slovakia has a medium rate of crime.〔http://travel.his.com/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1019.html〕
Slovakia employs numerous law enforcement bodies and secret services in fighting crime, yet according to numerous opinion polls the Police together with the Secret Services are some of the least trusted institutions in the country.〔http://www.mod.gov.sk/data/files/472.pdf〕〔http://www.mosr.sk/doveryhodnost-institucii/〕
